The Edelrid GigaJul Belay Device is a versatile, durable and efficient device for both indoor and outdoor climbing. It is slightly heavier than an ATC or Reverso, but makes up for it in added functionality and durability. The device locks up solidly on a fall and provides solid assisted braking. Easy to use in both modes, it feeds smoothly and can control the rate of descent. One downside is that it slips a little more than the older Megajuul model. Despite that, it is a superior product for those who are not comfortable with the Grigri and looking for an extra layer of protection.
