Def Leppard Format: Audio CD Album-Oriented Rock (AOR) 518305-2 Editorial Review
**** "Retro Active" stands out as a compelling compilation album from Def Leppard that offers fans a unique glimpse into the band's creative history during the Steve Clark era. With 14 tracks that are previously unreleased or re-recorded gems, the album successfully captures the essence of the band's sound, reminiscent of their earlier works while showcasing tracks that, for various reasons, never made it to studio albums like "Pyromania," "Hysteria," or "Adrenalize." Listeners have praised the album's mastering and mixing, which give it a cohesive feel akin to a new studio release rather than a mere collection of past B-sides. The inclusion of a booklet with descriptions of each track enhances the overall experience, making it a treat for both old fans and newcomers alike. The artwork has also garnered acclaim for its mysterious and intriguing design, adding to the album's overall charm. Critics note that many of the songs here are not just for hardcore fans; they compare favorably against well-known tracks from the band's discography, with standout songs that could have easily replaced lesser favorites on previous albums. Even as nostalgia factors in, which some past fans have narrated with bittersweet memories of the band's evolution, "Retro Active" seems to bridge the gap between vintage rock sound and contemporary appreciation. Though some have experienced playback issues with the CD format, the album itself has been well-received, particularly for its energetic tracks and nostalgic value—creating a blend of nostalgia and newness that resonates strongly with its listeners. **
